The opinions expressed in this article are my personal opinions and experience and do not necessarily reflect London Fire Brigade policy or opinion.
Steve Dudeney joined the London Fire Brigade aged 18 in 1987. He is now an Assistant Divisional Officer (Battalion Chief) and is currently working on a number of strategic projects prior to entering the next promotion process to Divisional Officer (Deputy Chief). Dudeney has served at a number of busy stations in the East End of the city and cut his firefighting teeth in the late 80s when the area was filled with a high number of derelict and rundown buildings. He is a graduate member of the Institution of Fire Engineers and his vocational interests are firefighting tactics, operational command, high-rise procedures and UK and U.S. fire departments. His vision is for a greater international understanding of firefighting/command procedures so that a set of best practice procedures can make the job safer.
