Cause of Death: After exiting a tanker truck at the scene of a blaze, the truck rolled forward over an embankment and struck him, pinning him beneath the vehicle.

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - A volunteer firefighter in eastern Kentucky died after being hit by a tanker truck at the scene of a blaze, state police said.

Charles McKenzie, 75, of West Van Lear died Wednesday after being pinned under the truck at 11:44 p.m., state police in Pikeville said.

McKenzie had driven the tanker truck to the scene, state police said. He was relaying water to fight a house fire in West Van Lear, police said. After McKenzie exited the truck, it rolled forward over an embankment and struck him, police said.
