Volunteer firefighter dies after fighting blaze in Ill.

ATLANTA, Ill. — Authorities say a 42-year-old volunteer for the Atlanta Fire Department died early yesterday after falling ill while fighting a house fire in Waynesville.

The Atlanta Fire Department was assisting the Waynesville Fire Protection District at the house fire late Friday when Roger Armstrong of Atlanta complained of not feeling well.

Atlanta Fire Chief Rick Cheek says he sent Armstrong to an ambulance for help. Armstrong was taken to BroMenn Regional Medical Center and later was pronounced dead at the hospital.
