Kansas fire chief suffers fatal heart attack after blaze

MCPHERSON COUNTY, Kansas — A Kansas fire chief died Monday afternoon shortly after tackling a house fire.

Chief Stanley Engdahl, 78, of McPherson County Rural Fire Department #2, suffered a heart attack after the small fire was under control and units were clearing the scene.

To date, 104 firefighter fatalities have been reported to the USFA in 2007 as a result of incidents that occurred this year.
