PENN HILLS, Pa. — A volunteer firefighter in Penn Hills has died as he was preparing to answer a call.

Authorities say 71-year-old Harvey Jordan died of an apparent heart attack shortly after arriving at the Lincoln Park fire hall in the Pittsburgh suburb on Monday morning.

Firefighters tried to revive Jordan who died a short time later at UPMC-St. Margaret hospital.

Firefighters say crews had been summoned by an automatic fire alarm that went off when someone burned some food in their home.

To date, five firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2008.
