Ill. firefighter dies during training exercise

Duty Death: William Miller - [Blue Mound, Illinois]

The Associated Press

DECATUR, Ill. — Investigators in central Illinois are looking into a crash that left a volunteer firefighter dead during a training exercise.

Sangamon County Coroner Susan Boone says 24-year-old William Miller of Blue Mound actually died from a pre-existing condition aggravated by the accident. She wouldn't release details about that condition.

Authorities say the tanker truck Miller was driving overturned Monday night in southwest Macon County while the Blue Mound Fire Department was conducting a training exercise.

Officials with the Macon County sheriff's office and the Illinois State Police are investigating.
