The NFPA has announced the recipient of its 2012 Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year award.
Marsha Giesler, public education officer, juvenile fire interventionist and assistant to the chief for the Downers Grove Fire Department in Ill., implemented a number of fire safety education programs during the past 20 years, according to an NFPA press release.
The author of Fire and Life Safety Educator, Giesler visits 17 elementary schools per month and conducts routine evacuation drills in Downers Grove.
The NFPA said educators like Giesler are instrumental in the distribution of NFPA materials and messages, not to mention community safety.
