Offerings make FireRescue the largest national fire-rescue conference in Nevada
FireRescue Conference & Exposition, produced by Elsevier's FireRescue Magazine and Reed Exhibitions, today announces the completion of its 2006 conference program, featuring 49 conference sessions, hands-on training sessions and pre-conference workshops.
FireRescue Conference & Expo is scheduled for November 7-11, 2006 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event features two days of cutting-edge hands-on training and preconference workshops, two NWCG certified Wildland sessions and dynamic opening and closing keynote addresses.
Conference Program Training, Tactics for Today's Fire-Rescue Professional
Alan Brunacini, Nick Brunacini, Larry Davis, Gordon Graham, Billy Goldfeder, Peter Kertzie … these are just a few of the exceptional speakers on the 2006 program. With session topics on leadership principles, quality control, mayday drills, mass casualty for mass transit, and more, there are plenty of educational offerings for fire officers and firefighters alike. Hands-on workshops will provide focused training on trench rescue, emergency shoring operations, advanced rope rigging, roof ventilation and more.
Key Changes Make Conference Even Stronger
Key changes were made to the 2006 conference program in order to better serve today's fire-rescue professional. The most evident change is the consolidation of the number of specialized "academies" to fulfil educational needs and provide more focused training. Academies include Fire Operations & Tactics, Company Officer Development, Rescue/Extrication and Truck Company.
A second change includes holding all of the hands-on training sessions at one central location, the Henderson Fire Training Facility. FireRescue has enjoyed a strong relationship with the Henderson Fire Department and its training facility since the inception of the conference, and they have agreed to be the central location for the hands-on classes in 2006. This change will minimize the logistics involved in transporting students, while still accommodating an increase in the number of class offerings and students that can participate.
Finally, in an effort to maintain cost efficiencies for attendees, a new Tuesday through Saturday date pattern for the conference was established. With fewer weekend hotel stays, attendees will be able to save money. The new date pattern will also encourage local attendance by incorporating the Veteran's Day holiday on Friday, November 10th.
New for 2006 - Nevada Day
In recognition of the continued support that FireRescue has enjoyed from the fire departments of Nevada, the partnership with the Nevada Fire Chiefs Association, and to celebrate the relationships with the Professional Firefighters of Nevada (PFFN) and the Nevada State Firefighters Association (NSFA), Friday, November 10 will be ‘Nevada Day.' Nevada Day will include a variety of packages and discounts for fire-service professionals from the state of Nevada, including complimentary lunch on the Show floor and an end-of-day reception.
Keynote Speakers Discuss Important Issues
The 2006 opening keynote session features Brian O'Malley as he discusses his journey on Mount Everest in "Everest & the Spirit of Adventure." This is more than just a story about climbing the world's tallest mountain. It offers a new perspective on overcoming obstacles and finding success. Mr. O'Malley's multifaceted career also included work as a paramedic firefighter, where he was featured on CBS Rescue 911, and as an urban rescue specialist.
The closing address will be given by Chief Billy Goldfeder. Always frank and direct, Chief Goldfeder will talk about firefighter safety and survival and the impact of allowing firefighters to kill themselves or get killed. He will address the real and unspoken issues behind firefighter injury and death.
