Fire truck slides 1,000 feet at icy house fire

Firefighters had difficulty driving up the slick incline to the blaze

ST. REGIS FALLS, N.Y. — An icy driveway made St. Regis firefighters’ job more difficult as they prepared to douse a fully-ablaze home with water Saturday morning.

After their first truck slid back almost 1,000 feet as firefighters tried to drive it up the incline to the burning house, the water supply was set up at nearby Deer Valley Trails restaurant, Fire Chief Wilbur Bailey said.
