FDNY to Implement New Fire Behavior Units Purchased with Fireman's Fund Grant

DeWitt Stern Group, Inc. and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company will award a $50,000 grant to the FDNY on Sunday to fund the purchase of new fire behavior units for training. The units, or modules, will be used to create real “live” fire training exercises at the Department’s Training Academy on Randall’s Island.

These high-tech units can create scenarios that depict conditions not normally encountered on a day-to-day basis. Instructors will be able to educate firefighters about the science of fire, helping to improve each member’s ability to better predict the movement of a fire.

The grant package is part of a program, funded by the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, which is designed to provide equipment, training and educational tools to fire departments nationwide.
