CHESHIRE, Mass. — The Cheshire Fire Department responded to a reported carbon monoxide leak at a home Thursday night, in which detectors played a key role in helping a family escape.

Firefighters were called to the Levesque home on Depot Street when residents called after carbon monoxide detectors went off shortly after 11 p.m.

Fire Chief George Sweet said the leak was caused by a furnace malfunction. None of the three people at home at the time were hurt.

"It's a good thing homes have carbon monoxide detectors now," he said. "They save peoples' lives."
