Companies team up to make CO-testing defibrillator

Associated Press

IRVINE, Calif. — Medical device makers Zoll Medical Corp. and Masimo said Thursday they will work together to develop defibrillators that can check for carbon monoxide poisoning.

Under the agreement, Zoll will make defibrillators that measure carbon monoxide and methemoglobin levels in the blood, allowing medical technicians and firefighters to diagnose and treat carbon monoxide poisoning.

The products will incorporate Masimo's Rainbow SET Pulse CO-Oximetry into Zoll's E Series defibrillators.

Chelmsford, Mass.-based Zoll is a maker of resuscitation devices.
