CINCINNATI — At school, a local firefighter told Jazmine Lewis about how deadly carbon monoxide poisoning could be.

"Almost a million kids die from it," the 11-year-old recites proudly. "I was the only one that was paying attention."

On Wednesday afternoon, she came close to becoming a statistic herself.
