In addition to the above, the employee's retirement contribution of 9% is paid by the City to the retirement plan (P.E.R.S.). Additional benefits are listed below.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Requires graduation from high school or GED. Minimum age: 18 years old. Certificate of completion from a certified State of California Board of Fire Services approved Fire Science Academy, and/or a Firefighter I Certificate issued by the California State Fire Marshal is required upon application. Completion of a California State approved paramedic-training program is also required upon application.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
CURRENT COPIES OF THE FOLLOWING LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES MUST BE SUBMITTED ALONG WITH A CITY APPLICATION OR AS OUTLINED IN PAGE 3 OF THIS JOB FLYER AS FOLLOWS:
EMT/P License
CPR Certificate
Academy Diploma or FFI Certificate
Valid California Class C Driver's License
Physical Agility Certification: CPAT or BIDDLE
SELECTION PROCESS
Candidates meeting the minimum requirements will have their qualifications screened and those candidates deemed most qualified will be invited to participate in an oral board interview. Qualified candidates will be notified in writing of the time and place of the interview. Under the City's examination procedure, failure on any part of the announced examination will be grounds for disqualification of an applicant.

Vision standard is 20/70 uncorrected; 20/30 corrected.
FINAL FILING DATE
A City of West Covina Application and the attached Firefighter Paramedic (Refer to Check-Off List) must be received by 5:00 P.M. on Friday, November 9, 2007. Interviews tentatively scheduled for Wednesday through Friday, December 5, 2007 to December 7, 2007. Prior to hire date, candidates must submit all required documents and successfully complete a background investigation, including a medical exam.
Qualified candidates will be notified at a later date regarding the time and place of the examination.
Under the City's examination procedure, failure on any part of the announced examination will be grounds for disqualification of an applicant.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
HOLIDAYS - All Firefighter Association employees receive twelve (12) hours per month with no specific date designated.
VACATION - All Firefighter Association employees accrue 120 vacation hours per year, and at five years, they receive 180 hours per year.
SICK LEAVE - Firefighter Association employees accrue twelve (12) hours per month. There is unlimited accumulation, and the City has an annual payoff plan for unused sick leave, plus a payoff plan upon termination (no cash out if discharged).
HEALTH INSURANCE - The City has a flexible benefits program wherein currently $855.76 per month (Kaiser Family Premium for the Los Angeles Area Region) may be applied towards health coverage through the Public Employees' Retirement Syste
