| Since 1837, Toledo firefighters have been protecting the citizens of Toledo first as volunteers, then in 1868 as paid firefighters. Much has changed since those early years. Now, the Toledo Fire Department has 17 fire stations located strategically throughout the city staffed by over 525 firefighters. In addition to responding to fires, all Toledo firefighters are trained Emergency Medical Technicians with 135 also being certified paramedics. Each year the Toledo Fire Department responds to over 45,000 emergency incidents. These runs include fires, hazardous materials incidents, water rescues, confined space rescue, vehicle accidents and many others calls assisting our community.

Additional Requirement :
1. Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license upon appointment.
2. Selected applicant must establish City of Toledo residency within 6 months of employment.
3. Successful candidate must pass:
- Written examination
- Background investigation
- Oral interview
- Medical examination
- Physical ability examination
