| POSITION DESCRIPTION
Georgetown Township Fire Protection District
POSITION: Firefighter/EMT
DEPARTMENT: Fire / EMS
WORK SCHEDULE: Shift (24 hours on-duty/48 hours’ off-duty)

Incumbent serves as Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician for the Fire Department, responsible for responding to various emergency situations, including fire, medical emergencies and hazardous chemical releases.
DUTIES:
Responds to various alarms, rides and/or drives vehicle to emergency scenes, and carries/sets up appropriate equipment. Must be able to maintain radio communications with other emergency personnel on site.
Suppresses fires, including climbing ladders, crawling/walking on roofs and floors, operating equipment to open holes and windows to supply adequate ventilation, focusing streams of water and/or chemicals toward fires, and moving into fire areas. Cleans and removes debris from scene and monitors site for recurrence of fire.
Searches for and rescues victims from dangerous situations, stabilizes injured individuals by providing patient care and transporting to a receiving hospital.
Responds to reports of hazardous materials releases, including identifying and containing hazardous materials to minimize or prevent damage and evacuating persons from hazardous areas as needed.
Monitors and performs general maintenance on equipment and vehicles, including cleaning/washing, checking fluids and tire pressure, and filling air tanks and checking regulators.
Performs general maintenance, repair and cleaning of fire stations and fire department facilities as assigned.
Assists in fire safety education programs and community service details as assigned.
Periodically attends training sessions, as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.

| The Georgetown Township Fire Protection District will have applications available to pickup for the position of Career Firefighter/EMT starting 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14th 2008. An application packet may be picked up at Georgetown Township Fire District Headquarters, 5610 Corydon Ridge Road, Georgetown, IN Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The application packet must be post marked or delivered in person no later than February 1st, 2008. No exceptions.
