| The Stratmoor Hills Fire Protection District in Colorado Springs Colorado, is seeking an exceptional leader for the position of Fire Chief of the District. The position is vacant and will remain open until filled. The Fire Chief is directly responsible to a publicly elected Board of Directors.
The Fire Chief needs to be a progressive leader; performing complex administrative and life safety duties in directing the operations, activities, and staff of the Fire Department. The Fire Chief manages and leads the department through subordinates and ensures goals and objectives are met through a prioritization of initiatives and resources. The Fire Chief is an active participant in incident mitigation at whatever level is necessary. The ideal Fire Chief must have a demonstrated broad range of experience in leadership, management, administration, and operations inherent to a suburban combination department environment.

| Education:
An Associate’s degree in fire science, fire service administration, related field, or equivalent education acceptable to the Board of Directors.
Experience:
• A minimum of ten years of well-rounded experience in the fire service
• A minimum of five years of full-time progressive supervisory and/or command experience that clearly demonstrates the experience is indicative of senior executive level management capability
• Experience in developing and administering a budget and taking a proactive leadership role in seeking additional funding sources
• Experience in marketing and engaging a department in the community and meeting their needs
• Experience in organizational development
• Experience in recruiting, selecting, developing, recognizing and retaining a diverse workforce
• Experience in the development, management, and delivery of training programs

Department Description
The Stratmoor Hills Fire Protection District is a combination department providing fire and EMS services to a suburban area adjacent to Ft. Carson and Colorado Springs. Staffing consists of the career Fire Chief, one career Station Captain, four career Driver/Engineers, one administrative assistant, and approximately twenty-five volunteer officers, firefighters and dispatchers. This staff serves a population base of approximately 6,500. The department also provides contract fire and emergency medical services for the local Community College, and serves as the dispatch center for area departments. The Department also operates under multiple automatic mutual aid agreements. The department operates out of one station with two engines, one quick attack/rescue, one non-transporting BLS ambulance, one type 7 brush truck, and two support vehicles. The Department responded to over 1,300 calls for service in 2007. Due to the close proximity to the rapidly expanding Ft. Carson Army base, the department will be impacted by significant development which will include multiple “Big Box” commercial and multi-family housing developments over the next few years.
