MORENO VALLEY, Calif. — A Riverside County firefighter was taken to the hospital with heat-related illness from fighting a garage fire at at two-story house in Moreno Valley, authorities said.

The firefighter became ill while fighting a fire at a 2,600 square-foot home near Primrose Way and Morrison Street around 1:45 p.m. Friday, said Riverside County fire Capt. Jodie Gray.

The fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes, she said.
The firefighter was taken to an area hospital apparently suffering from heat exhaustion, Gray said.

The ill firefighter's injuries were not considered “too serious,” and were probably caused by Friday's weather conditions, she said.

Yesterday's temperature reached a high of 95 degrees.

A damage estimate for the house was listed at $100,000, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
