Car hits Calif. house, driver missing

Car hit truck, went through fence, hit side of house but did not go through wall; no one in house was injured, but truck driver had to be extricated

EL RIO, Calif. — Investigators were searching Monday for a driver who struck a house in El Rio then left, authorities said.

The crash was reported about 6:35 a.m. near Rose Avenue and Walnut Drive. The driver was going south on Rose, changed lanes and hit a truck, said Officer Steve Reid, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.

The car went through a fence and hit the side of a house, damaging a wall, Reid said. The vehicle did not go through the wall, and no one in the house was injured. The driver abandoned the vehicle and left the scene, Reid said.

The truck spun out and hit a light pole, trapping its driver inside, Reid said. The driver — Francisca Ramos, 46, of Oxnard — had to be freed by firefighters. Ramos had minor injuries, Reid said.

Anyone with information should call 477-4100.
