Canadian EMS release video teaching drivers to pull over for emergency vehicles

The aim of the video is to bring attention to the crucial seconds that can be saved if motorists pull over for emergency vehicles

Emergency officials say not enough drivers know what to do when a police car, fire truck or ambulance approaches from behind with its lights flashing and sirens blaring.

Edmonton Police, Edmonton Fire Rescue, Alberta Health Services and the Alberta Motor Association have joined forces to create a video educating drivers on how to safely pull over to the right and come to a stop when an emergency vehicle approaches.

The point of the campaign is to save lives by allowing responders to get to an emergency more quickly.

Teresa Barents Van Bramer Teresa Barents Van Bramer Tuesday, November 06, 2012 1:25:16 PM Was not a very helpful video. If you are on a 3 lane highway and traffic is lined up in all 3 lines, what are you supposed to do? If the people beside you are not moving to the right or showing signs of coming over to the left, there is nothing you can do... I once had a fire truck a few cars behind me laying on the horn/siren because we could not move. There was literally NO where to go. I understand their point but we were ALL beeping at the front car and they would not budge. I don't know wy the second car did not get out and tell the 1st car to move it. Fear? Who knows. What do we do in that situation? There are times I wish there was an "UP" button on the car! I have persnally gone into the middle of 4 way intersections to get the line behind me moving for them to get through!
Matthew Quinn Matthew Quinn Thu Nov 8 11:15:54 PST 2012 Pull to the right as far as possible and stop. If you cannot pull to the right then just stop. Don't break any laws, don't be "pushed" through an intersection. We'll figure out how to get through, you need to make the attempt to get out of the way. I know it is stressful, but don't panic, we understand that at times it is a difficult request. Please just do your best.
Michael W Alexander Sr Michael W Alexander Sr Saturday, November 10, 2012 3:56:28 PM Think they need to make a videio for the United States. I can't count the number of times I have seen people just stop right where they are and not pull to the right. Really believe if the video was made correctly it could possibly help.
