11 firefighters injured in house fire of NJ hoarder

Fire killed 20 cats, injured 11 firefighters, most of them from throwing piles of heavy debris out of windows

The Associated Press

PASSAIC, N.J. — A fire in the home of a New Jersey hoarder has killed 20 cats and injured 11 firefighters, most of them from throwing piles of heavy debris.

Passaic Fire Chief Patrick Trentacost tells The Record newspaper (http://bit.ly/sDthHC) that Tuesday's blaze was one of the most dangerous fires he has seen.

The chief says one firefighter was taken to the hospital for back and leg pain after he tripped and fell inside the home. Ten others sustained pulled shoulders and sore backs from throwing piles of debris out the windows.

The homeowner was taken to St. Mary's Hospital, but it's not clear why.
