Firefighters find body in burning car

Officials say the vehicle drove off a road, through a field, and then crashed into a creek

Spokesman Review

LEWISTON, Idaho — Authorities in northern Idaho say firefighters putting out a burning vehicle found a body inside.

Lt. Brannon Jordan of the Latah County Sheriff's Office said emergency workers responded to a report of a burning vehicle about 1 p.m. Saturday southeast of Moscow.

Jordan said the burning vehicle is registered to a 29-year-old Moscow man. Jordan said that earlier in the day police were called to do a welfare check on the man.

Jordan said evidence indicates the vehicle drove straight off the road, accelerated through a farm field, jumped a creek and crashed into the bank on the other side, where it caught fire. He saidit does not appear to be an accident.

Authorities are investigating.
