2 children badly burned in fire pit explosion

The county fire marshal believes there may have been an old can of gas near the pit that set off the explosion

By FireRescue1 Staff

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. — Two Miss. children remain in critical condition after being badly burned in a fire pit explosion.

The Harrison County children, an 8-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy were near a fire pit outside their family's home when their father went inside and heard an explosion; he returned to find his children burned, according to the Sun Herald.

The children's parents took them to the hospital where they were later airlifted to an out-of-state burn center over the weekend.

County Fire Marshal Pat Sullivan thinks that there may have been an old can of gas near the fire pit, setting of the explosion.
