3 Fla. firefighters injured, 1 critically battling blaze

With quickly deteriorating conditions, the firefighters were forced to call a mayday

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. — Three Fla. firefighters were injured, one critically, while battling a fire Thursday morning.

Marin County Fire Rescue arrived a structure fire early Thursday and searched for victims in the heavy smoke, according to a department press release.

While battling the blaze, conditions quickly deteriorated and firefighters were forced to call a mayday after being overcome by the heat.

Fellow firefighters rescued them.

One of the firefighters was treated on the scene and released, the second was hospitalized and the other was flown to a burn unit and remains in critical condition.
