BALTIMORE — Five firefighters were trapped and called a mayday during a four-alarm fire in Baltimore Monday evening.
Baltimore City Fire Battalion Chief Kevin Cartwright said crews arrived to find the three-story building with heavy smoke conditions on the second and third floor.
WBALTV reported that after gaining entry into the building, crews were ordered to evacuate because of quickly deteriorating conditions.
As firefighters were leaving the building, it completely collapsed, trapping five firefighters. All five of them were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
It is unclear how the blaze started.
