A video was uploaded to YouTube last week showing a woman in a black leotard, short shorts and high heels hula-hooping in Venice Fire Station 63.
She is also wearing what appears to be department overalls and a helmet. The helmet lacks any L.A. logos, but has black tape covering where it would be. A number 63 can be seen on the side of an apparatus in the background.
The video, called "Firehouse Burlesque Hula Hooping" is an advertisement for Venice-based fitness company Hoopnotica, according to NBC LA.
Lauren Brand, spokeswoman for Hoopnotica, said that the video had been shot in the last 30 days at the station, which is just a couple blocks from the Hoopnotica headquarters.
The women in the video are part of Hoopnotica's street promotional team.
"We were walking around the neighborhood. The girls saw the door of the station open and walked in," Brand told the television station.
Brand alleges they asked firefighters inside if they could shoot a "hooping" video to which they agreed. She confirmed that firefighters appeared in the video and were wearing city-issued gear.
LAFD spokesman Jaime Moore said he has not seen the video but an internal investigation has been launched.
Station 63 was embroiled in another investigation last year after it was discovered that it allowed an adult movie to be shot using two of its trucks.

Robbie PyciorWednesday, December 05, 2012 11:08:03 AMI don't know the whole story here....but if your station was just in the shit for filming a porno (how did they think that would be allowed) you really should't be allowing anything to be filmed in your station till things simmer down....allowing a "burlesque hula hooping video" to be shot was a major blunder. Last thing you need is unpaid leave or worse....
Terry MoodyWednesday, December 05, 2012 11:21:48 AMA child's Hula Hoop is now "racy and burlesque." What is this world coming to. Maybe all fire department doors should be closed and locked at all times. Nothing was wrong or suggestive about this.
Evan ScottWednesday, December 05, 2012 11:28:49 AMOk the porn thing I get, maybe not such a good Idea. This video, not so bad, I see nothing wrong with this. I understand that people say " the uniform needs to be respected, and we are held to a higher standard" But I think as a whole people need to lighten up a little. If the public knew about half the stuff that went on at most stations they would be appalled. Same goes for both stations I have worked for. But in the end everyone there are hard working great guys who have nothing but the utmost of respect for the job and what we do. The public and the media doesn't understand that the gravity of our jobs leaves little room for joking around and having a good time at work, The house is one place we can decompress and let out some stress. Yes I agree, shooting porn in your spare time not a good way to do so but I think as a whole people are way to judgmental of this "Higher standard" we must live up to.
Robbie PyciorWednesday, December 05, 2012 11:30:48 AMhoopnotica (no suggestive undertones in that name i'm sure) started by a Cirque performer i know...the background music? the uploaded video was titled "burlesque". A training video or drill that i can understand, an interview with reporters by the chief/PRO ok.... Allowing the "promo girls" from "hoopnotica" to come in and strut around in station gear with guys in the video, which is then titled burlesque? A year after the station allowed a porno to be shot on the premises, guys didn't think. They should have.
Douglas CremeansWednesday, December 05, 2012 11:41:34 AMi think the porn was shot out in public, it was the truck that was used once out in the city. 6 of one half dozen other, this video is not bad, i know alot of people that post videos "tag" tons of names just to get the most publicity for that video.
Ian MosesWednesday, December 05, 2012 11:41:42 AMLA we have a problem....
Troy GreenWednesday, December 05, 2012 11:46:23 AMthat vdeo as not racy at all.
Rachael SternliebWednesday, December 05, 2012 12:04:50 PMA lot of this seems like hype to stir the pot and make something out of nothing. Not like that eeeeever happens in the fire service. It's a fully clothed chick with a hoola hoop. Get over it.
Brad HarrisWednesday, December 05, 2012 12:15:08 PMI don't see anything wrong with this video. Yes she was wearing a helmet and pants....so what? it didn't say what department it was from, you can see 63 on the engine....so. How many departments out there have a 63 on their truck? You couldn't see which department it was on the side of the truck because of the glare from the light. Is it the best timing to have allowed this? Probably not, but like I said I don't see anything wrong with it.
Genny FloyedWednesday, December 05, 2012 12:17:03 PMYa all are missing the point. It doesn't matter what this woman was "doing" in the Fire Station. First the station is funded by the public and not meant for those antics. What kind of example does that set for the public and for children. Would you feel comfortable having one of the irresponsible Firefighters/Medics come help you? Would you question their competency? I know I would, if they felt that this was ok to do in a professional Fire Department which should be held to high standards how serious would they take their job at times. Sad. Please note that I am not saying that all of the Firefighters are as immature as these were, LA has some darn great Firefighters!
Tim LaLiberteWednesday, December 05, 2012 12:21:26 PMI see nothing wrong with this video. The young lady was wearing more clothes than half the women walking down the street in LA. The guys were not acting out or doing anything disrespectful. Nothing in the video is racy or burlesque... Come on people, Lighten up.
Donnie GordnerWednesday, December 05, 2012 12:24:25 PMI would have NO issues with them helping me, and dont see how this makes them "Irresponsible" or "Immature" . I see nothing wrong with this video, nor do i the idea of it. The other "Video" i dont think was a good idea though.
David BrownWednesday, December 05, 2012 12:31:03 PMseems a bit tame hula hoops and causing an investigation
John FavaloroWednesday, December 05, 2012 12:40:17 PMThere was NOTHING wrong with that. The female was beautiful and did nothing I would think as suggestive at all. Get over it!
Bryan EdwardsWednesday, December 05, 2012 12:52:37 PMAs a FireFighter myself I see nothing wrong with this video. Yes we are held to a higher standard but sometimes you need to decompress unless you do this job you will never understand the things we see and go through on a daily basis.
Billy William GilbertWednesday, December 05, 2012 12:54:07 PMWELL I DIDn't SEE ANY THING WRONG WITH THAT AT ALL I THANK SOME PEOPLE SHOULD JUST SHUT UP AND GROW UP.........
Genny FloyedWednesday, December 05, 2012 12:59:54 PMBryan why are you assuming that I have not? So if they what to be that way that is the choice of the station but to put it on You Tube is just plain stupid. Look where it got them. We would not be having this discussion would we?
Kurtis CookWednesday, December 05, 2012 1:02:43 PMShe is more than welcome to come hoola hoop in our station anytime.
Rachael SternliebWednesday, December 05, 2012 1:07:51 PMAS A FEMALE FIREFIGHTER PARAMEDIC I would have no problem with these Firefighter Paramedics who I'm sure are VERY COMPETANT individuals treating my family. First of all, who are you to have any say whatsoever in how they perform their job? Are you even in this line of work? The video did not display any sexual behavior. It was an artistic film in my opinion. And my opinion doesn't count for much.... much like yours.
Rachael SternliebWednesday, December 05, 2012 1:10:05 PMWhy don't you go find more cats to find more Christmas hats on and take photos for your profile? As a jew, the feline sporting the anti-semetic gear is offensive. Is this how you want to represent yourself?
Karen M. MyersWednesday, December 05, 2012 1:18:02 PMWhat exactly was immature about the firefighters? Schools are publicly funded too but dancers, magicians, and all sorts of performers show up there. I don't see how this video is immature, or racy, or even inappropriate. The video being shot did not interfere with the duty of the personnel stationed there. Firefighters/EMS workers are no different than any other people. When there is work that must be done they do it. But I have not seen one work place yet that did not have some kind of down time, or some time to joke around. This is a big deal over absolutely nothing. Way to go media!
John SplashWednesday, December 05, 2012 1:18:14 PMI don't see anything wrong with the video...
Steve BrozynaWednesday, December 05, 2012 1:58:51 PMJesus Christ. If that's wrong, I don't want to be right..........
Steve BrozynaWednesday, December 05, 2012 2:01:43 PMWhat the hell is wrong with people? If you find that offensive you should move to Utah & be a Mormon. I thought LA was progressive?
Pete KnappWednesday, December 05, 2012 2:32:46 PMToo much about nothing.
Joshua WimberleyWednesday, December 05, 2012 2:36:32 PMNothing worse that firefighters do to each other on a daily basis... Sounds like an administrative witch hunt to me...
Colin ZwaagstraWednesday, December 05, 2012 2:56:49 PMThere are some serious Health And Safety violations in this video! First of all she needs to do up her chin strap! Give me a break!
Al McCuneWednesday, December 05, 2012 3:26:30 PMReally? really? REALLY? come on people....Thinking the people that thinks this is wrong have alot of time on their hands and thinks they should do some volunteering or some community service work in their communities....
Ted JonesWednesday, December 05, 2012 4:24:52 PMI think the LAFD should be very upset. The quality of that video was awful. Come on. They are in LA, the home of TV, movies and video. And this was the best they could do? Jeez, we could have done better here in Chicago with a smart phone and just about any dancer.
Denis WhyteWednesday, December 05, 2012 4:29:16 PMWhat was wrong with that. it is only a girl with a hoola hoop. Something is wrong with this world. boy I miss the old days when things were simple and non political.
Joshua WimberleyWednesday, December 05, 2012 5:19:46 PMI've heard the same kind of ignorance being voiced about firefighters with visible tattoos. What is it about people that makes them think that just because somebody is different or likes different things they must be less than you. Whether that is less intelligent, less professional, or less holy... I for one have never in all my years of being a fire medic had someone look up at me in their moment of crisis and said, "No, not you, your tattoos scare me worse than this chest pain does".
Hugh ParkerWednesday, December 05, 2012 5:54:16 PMLOL That was not Racy not even in a little you guys need to Relax Get GRIP watch some TV that's RACY.
Gujo Kotch KattilijaWednesday, December 05, 2012 7:24:13 PMWhat a great fitness idea! Look what it did for this girl! C'mon they helped out a local business...
Glenn RangerWednesday, December 05, 2012 7:44:23 PMI can not get our guys interested in Hula Hooping, What's her secret?
William AllenWednesday, December 05, 2012 9:32:12 PMLet's ban the girl scouts, cub scouts, boy scouts as these childrren take away from fire station duties too. Might as well ban the TV and radios 9 even official radios as they might interfere with station personnel getting their proper rest. Also ban the desk rider who is leading this investigation from getting into the stations to bother firefighters. Lets also ban anything that's assine like this investigation.
Virginia Sattler WatersonThursday, December 06, 2012 3:45:00 AMI"m sure there is a rule and they broke it period. This is free lance 101, might not be on the fire ground but it's still public image. With so many communities struggling to keep going and people looking at how much down time they are paying for, would this really make you want to pay a high tax rate?
Michael PlatoThursday, December 06, 2012 4:36:20 AMcome on cheif there's nothing wrong with a little fun no on took there clothes off or anything they let dudes make calenders in station gear.
the station gear.
Scott PriceThursday, December 06, 2012 10:17:50 AMI remember the adult video incident...this is pretty tame, and if this same company hadn't had that incident in their past, I wouldn't see the big deal either. However, with the recent publicity of the same dept. and the SAME engine company, probably would have been wiser to make a phone call to overhead first. I am sure an open minded pio or chief could have found a way to keep this from becoming the media circus that it has obviously become.
Cathy Pankey DixonThursday, December 06, 2012 10:42:15 AMThat is nothing bad, i've seen worse. I understand the uniform showing on who the guys are but come on. The were dressed and alot f woman now adays wear hi heels and short shorts.
Robin WatsonThursday, December 06, 2012 12:18:54 PMgenny floyed as you said they should not of put it on youtube. if you are refering to the firefighters in the video they did not post it. the people making the ad did. and theres not a thing wrong with it they wernt even horsing around the stuff we do when kids come to see the station is more horse play then seen in this video not to mention they took time to remove lafd logos yes not good timing but honestly i see not a thing wrong with this video.
Chris JungThursday, December 06, 2012 1:49:53 PMIf I remember correctly there was a movie called Backdraft, that had a couple banging on top of a fire truck in a station.. Real Chi-town fire truck, Real Chi-Town Station. Real firefighters in movie. Full cooperation of the department for such a racy and burlesque showing.. Then Ladder 49.. Gay bashing/joking, horseplay in the station..
At what point do we stop? I am sorry ma'am, we cant allow video be taken of your kids 5th birthday visit to the fire station, because he is using a hoola-hoop and is fully clothed.
If they were not hindered in a response, did not make money out of the deal or personnally profit from it.. all they were doing was supporting the community and community businesses. should they have gotten permission from PIO/PAO, probably.. so, give them a shame on you, don't do it again... Big deal... Mountains out of molehills.. sometimes we get held to too high of a standard.
Brian BirdThursday, December 06, 2012 2:14:41 PMHow do you get transferred to this station?
Jim WahlThursday, December 06, 2012 5:07:43 PMWhat was wrong with this? A good Hoola Hoop workout wouldn't hurt anyone! Beyond ridiculous.
Chuck DonovanMonday, December 10, 2012 12:00:49 PMto many bosses and not enough to do.
Ted JonesMonday, December 10, 2012 3:56:30 PMOK. You be the dancer. I've got a new chip in my phone.
Brad MacMillanTuesday, December 11, 2012 9:41:11 PMI completely agree with Terry Moody. There was nothing racy or burlesque about this. It reminds me of a music video and just allows exposure. The fact that an "adult movie" was filmed there the year before, well that's just stupidity to start with. Maybe they should think about asking their superiors to see if it's ok if they get something filmed before they do it from now on. Then everyone is happy.
Brad MacMillanTuesday, December 11, 2012 9:50:04 PMThe average person doesn't understand that to do this job, you almost need a "dark" sense of humour (sorry for the spelling, I'm Canadian hehe) We see things everyday that the average person wouldn't even THINK of seeing unless it was on their Xbox or PS3 or a movie. Some of the stuff they show is real life and we see that. We see people at their worst, and we see people's best when they come out and help others for no reason but because it's needed. To do a job like that, you aren't a regular type of person. But you still need outlets to vent some stresses and frustrations. Making a porn is going overboard, but doing a video like this where the guys are just relaxing and having fun (in between calls, cause if a call came in, they'd be out the door in no time flat, like usual) then there's nothing wrong with that. People need to relax. Next we won't be able to watch TV in the firehouse because it has Victoria Secret commercials at Christmas time and we're watching it. GROW UP. We're all adults here, it's about time we acted like it, instead of a whiny bunch of crybabys crying because of something that wasn't politically correct or our "older sibling" ratted us out. We need to de-stress just like all the 9-5ers out there. Seeing an average person come into the house and just have a little fun is one of the great ways I can think of taking my mind off the last bad call....
April MotesFriday, September 27, 2013 6:58:07 PMyou are very sexy
