Police report confusion in fire that killed 2

Dispatchers say the call they received only said cats were in danger, not the caller or the other man trapped in the burning home

By John Boyd

WITCHITA, Kansas Wichita police say there was some confusion at the scene of a house fire that left two people dead on Friday.

Police say the man called 911 - saying cats were dying in the fire, but he didn't tell dispatchers that he was disabled - or that he and another man were trapped in the house.

Firefighters called for an ambulance when they found the two people inside.

Police remind residents to provide as much information as possible when calling 911.

The men who died are 65 and 35 years old, but police have not released their names because not all family has been notified.

They are the third and fourth fire fatalities in Wichita in 2012.
