Firefighters extricate man after crashing into tree

Fire crews had to extricate the man whose car flipped upon impact

By Kimberly Pohl
Chicago Daily Herald

STREAMWOOD, Ill. — 29-year-old Streamwood man was severely injured Saturday morning when his vehicle hit a tree in Schaumburg.

The man, whose identity isn't being released, was driving west on Weathersfield Way near Whittier Lane when the single-vehicle crash occurred at about 3:30 a.m., Schaumburg Fire Capt. John Steele said.

The victim's Ford Focus left the residential road and struck a parkway tree, Steele said. Schaumburg fire crews worked between 15 and 20 minutes to extricate the man from the vehicle, which had flipped on its roof.

Steele said the man was conscious the entire time but sustained severe head trauma. Paramedics transported him to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge because it operates a trauma center.

The man's condition stabilized, Schaumburg Police Sgt. Don Muth said.
