OSTEGO, Mich. — A Mich. fire captain died Sunday while assisting Sandy relief efforts in N.Y.
Ostego Fire Department Capt. Steve Stevenson, died after surgery while in N.Y., according to Mlive.
Capt. Stevenson, also a paramedic, was working with American Medical Response in N.Y. when he reportedly suffered an aortic aneurism.
Fox17 reports that his wife's Facebook page indicated that Capt. Stevenson's kidneys and heart were functioning fine, and that surgeons expected to keep him sedated for a few days and follow up with a few weeks of rehab.
However, a statement from the department said Capt. Stevenson died after going through 13 hours of surgery.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, mother, father, and siblings.
More details will be released after Capt. Stevenson's body is returned to his family in Mich.
