By FireRescue1 Staff

ROTHSCHILD, Wisc. — A Wisc. fire chief died of a suspected heart attack at his home.

Rothschild Fire Department Chief Steve Fritz died Monday after EMS crews responded to his home and transported him to the hospital, according to the Wausau Daily Herald.

Rothschild EMS 1st Lt. Christine Anderson, who has known Chief Fritz for six years, said it is believed he had been watching television and napping when he suffered the heart attack.

"It's very sad. We're trying to keep our game faces on. We have others out there we have to help," Anderson said.

After serving with the department for 13 years, Fritz was promoted to chief in 2007.
