By FireRescue1 Staff

GALT, Calif. — A former Calif. firefighter turned police officer was killed in the line of duty Tuesday.

Kevin Tonn, 35, was a Jefferson County firefighter in 2009. He was responding a call about a break-in Tuesday morning and was shot by a burglary suspect, according to YNN.

Another officer at the scene was shot at but uninjured.

While other officers chased the suspect on foot, he shot and killed himself.
