SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Calif. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement regarding the death of Galt Police Department K9 Officer Kevin Tonn.

"Anne and I are deeply saddened to learn of the senseless killing of Officer Tonn. We honor his sacrifice and service, and extend our deep condolences to his family, friends and colleagues."

Officer Kevin Tonn, 35, was shot Tuesday while responding to a report of a burglary. A resident of Elk Grove, Tonn had served with the Galt Police Department for three and a half years after graduating from the Sacramento Sheriff's Department Academy. Prior to joining the Galt Police Department, he worked in New York as a firefighter and a paramedic and served in the Army Reserve as a Military Police Officer.

Officer Tonn is survived by his parents, Will Tonn and Mary Ann Tonn of Lincoln and his sister, Julie Carnesi of Roseville.

In honor of Officer Tonn, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
