SANTA MARIA, Calif. — A Calif. recognition dinner ended with a surprise proposal.
The Santa Maria Elks Lodge marked 36 years of hosting its "Firefighters Appreciation Night" Wednesday night, according to KSBY.
Six firefighters from different local and federal departments were recognized during the event.
"I just try and work hard and do a good job, I don't do it for the glory or the awards or plaques. I just do it because I want to make the department better and the city better." Santa Maria Fire Department Capt. James Clayton said.
During Firefighter Juan Martinez's award acceptance speech, he made a surprise proposal to his girlfriend.
She said yes.
