Off-duty fire chief saves cardiac victim

The chief was at a fitness center when he found the man unconscious

By Bailey McGowan

PLANO, Texas — Plano’s Fire Chief assisted Plano Parks and Recreations employees Wednesday evening in administering CPR while off-duty.

Fire Chief Brian Crawford was exercising at the Muehlenbeck Center when a 53-year-old man was found unconscious in the weight room. A City of Plano employee alerted Crawford, and he was able to help the rec center’s employees and a Plano doctor administer CPR.

The team used one of the center’s three Automated External Defibrillators (AED) and the patron was awake and speaking with Crawford by the time Plano-Fire Rescuers arrived on the scene some five minutes later.
