Video: Thousands gather to remember fallen firefighters

Lt. Eric Wallace and Lt. Gregory Pickard while fighting a fire that has been traced to a faulty electrical cord

BRYAN, Texas — Thousands of people filled a Texas church to mourn the loss of two fallen firefighters who died in the line of duty.

Bryan Fire Department Lieutenants Eric Wallace and Gregory Pickard died Feb. 15 while battling a fire at a Knights of Columbus hall.

"Each of those men had such an impact on every one of our folks sitting out here today," said Bryan Fire Department Chief Randy McGregor during the memorial service. "I know we will carry on their legacies and everything they brought to us."

The memorial's audience was comprised of friends, family members, fellow firefighters and law enforcement officials. Some that attended did not even know the men personally.

"It really doesn't matter whether you know them or not," said Houston Fire Department Assistant Chief Richard Mann told ABC 13. "You know what they do. You know what they're like. As they said in the service, we're kind of a unique breed."

Investigators say the cause of the fire has been traced to a faulty electrical cord that was running from a fan that was running in the kitchen of the building, according to the Eagle.

Two other firefighters were also injured in the blaze and remain hospitalized.
