TAMPA, Fla. — Joseph Hofstetter will throw out the first pitch at today’s spring training game between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla.
Hofstetter, a firefighter with the Rochester Fire Department, is one of two volunteer members of the West Webster Fire Department, who was injured after being shot in an ambush while responding two a fire call on Lake Road on Christmas Eve. Two firefighters were killed by the gunman, who later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Hofstetter is a long-time Yankee fan. The Yankees said they plan to recognize Hofstetter and Theodore Scardino, who were injured on Christmas Eve, and Mike Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka, who were killed, before this afternoon’s game.
