3 seriously injured in structure collapse in Texas city

Fire department investigating cause of building collapse

By John Hall
The El Paso Times

EL PASO, Texas — An office building under construction at 11351 James Watt Dr. collapsed late Tuesday morning with four construction workers on the roof of the building.

Three of the workers were taken to University Medical Center with injuries that were serious, but not life threatening. The other worker was not seriously injured and refused treatment, according to El Paso Fire Department spokesman John Concha.

The 7,000 square foot building had been fully framed and the construction workers were roofing the building.

Both the fire department and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will conduct investigations into the causes of the collapse, Concha said.
