Job Description
The District is seeking a visionary leader with proven management skills. The new Fire Chief must be an effective communicator capable of earning the trust and respect of the Board of Directors, department staff, the leadership of the local municipalities and the citizens of the District. The ability to relate effectively with elected officials and organizational leaders is a critical skill for this position. The Fire Chief should embrace a leadership approach that values teamwork and collaboration. The department needs a leader with dynamic interpersonal skills and a proven record of implementing change and organizational development. The Fire Chief is responsible for managing, directing and developing operational and administrative staff in support of the District’s vision, mission and goals. Additionally the Fire Chief recommends, develops and implements district policy, procedures, programs and performance standards. Other critical position responsibilities include: annual budget preparation, monitoring and controlling district spending, strategic/long-range planning, and building positive relationships with surrounding emergency service agencies.

Additional Information
The District is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, along the I-25 corridor in between Colorado Springs and Denver, Colorado. Currently, the District operates from three fire stations and has a career staff of forty-two professional firefighters and two administrative personnel. The service area of the District covers 68 square miles and has a resident population of approximately 24,000. On an annual basis the agency responds to 2,000 emergency incidents, including: structural & wildland fires, hazardous materials, traffic accidents, rescue incidents and EMS calls. The agency also provides ALS transport services, at the Paramedic level. The District has an annual budget of approximately $5 million dollars, which is primarily funded via property tax revenue. We are a Title 32 Special District of the state and are governed by a seven member board of directors that are elected by the citizens of the district.

Job Requirements
  • Age 18
  • Education BS/BA/Undergraduate
  • Experience 10 years fire service supervision
  • Additional Requirement :
    Recommended certifications: IFSAC Fire Officer II & Instructor NFA Executive Fire Officer IFSAC Hazmat Operations ICS 100, 200, 300, 400 NWCG Red Card CO or NREMT EMT-B Valid Colorado Driver’s License (within 30 days of appointment) Recommended Education: BS/BA degree in public administration, business administration, fire science, emergency medical services or a related field. Required Experience: 10 years’ experience in fire service supervision/field command with 5-7 years of senior management experience. *Any combination of education, certification, and experience that demonstrates the candidate’s ability to perform the duties of the position may be considered by the Board of Directors.
Salary Information
Salary: $80,000 to 95,000 annual
