St. Pete Beach is currently accepting applications for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. Candidates must meet all requirements for the position to be considered. Candidates wishing to be considered must process their application through National Testing Network (NTN). Candidates who contact the City via other means will NOT be considered for employment.

All FireTEAM and CPAT testing must be completed by September 30, 2014.

Salary Information: $44,463.33 to $63,845.60 – All positions are entry level starting pay

Department Overview:
The St Pete Beach Fire Department is a small, two station fire department providing Fire and EMS service to the City of St. Pete Beach, Florida, and the immediately adjacent incorporated and unincorporated areas through an automatic aid agreement. The City of St. Pete Beach Fire Department operates one ALS Rescue, one ALS Squad and one BLS Ladder Truck from two stations located on the barrier island community in southern Pinellas County Florida. The Department handles approximately 2,500 calls annually including EMS First Response ALS, fire related incidents, vehicle incident, etc.

The City’s response district is about five (5) miles long by approximately one half (1/2) miles wide. The community is mainly comprised of resort hotels, high rise residential buildings, single family residents and small businesses. The population of the City is approximately 10,000 and the median age of the residents is 60 years of age. The City of St. Pete Beach is bordered by the City of South Pasadena, the City of Treasure Island and the City of St. Petersburg.

The Fire Department consists of twenty nine (29) personnel: ten (10) fire fighter/EMTs, eleven (11) fire fighter/paramedics, three (3) District Chiefs, three (3) lieutenants and two (2) administrative staff: the Fire Chief and the Fire Marshal. A normal schedule for line personnel is 24 hours on duty followed by 48 hours off duty.

Located in Pinellas County, St. Pete Beach Fire Department units, like all Fire Departments in the County, are dispatched from one central location operated by the Pinellas County 911 Communications Center. All county departments operate on a common communications (radio and Mobil Data Terminal) system and function under a common Stand Operating Guideline (SOG) known as the Pinellas County 600 Series. The Pinellas County Fire and EMS Response System is made up of eighteen (18) different providers but work together in a functionally consolidated fashion.

The City of St. Pete Beach is a barrier island community located just off the Pinellas County mainland with a permanent population of about 10,032 (latest estimate from the University of Florida) The city is also a popular winter residence for many people living in other parts of the United States, Canada and Europe.

    Vision:

    1. Far visual acuity:
      Far visual acuity shall be at least 20/30 binocular corrected with contact lenses or eyeglasses. Far visual acuity uncorrected shall be at least 20/100 binocular for wearers of hard contacts or spectacles. Successful long-term soft contact lens wearers shall not be subject to the uncorrected criterion.
    2. Peripheral vision:
      Visual field performance without correction shall be 140 degrees in the horizontal meridian in each eye.
    3. Required to pass the Titmus II Color Vision test (ability to distinguish between red, yellow and green).
    4. Any other eye condition that results in a person not being able to perform the essential job functions of a Firefighter, NFPA 1582.

    Academy Certification:
    At time of appointment applicant must possess State of Florida Firefighter II Minimum Standards Compliance Certificate, AHA Basic Life Support CPR card, AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support card, Florida Paramedic certificate, high school diploma/equivalent, Florida Class E driver’s license, and possess valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certification
