The Town of Natick, Massachusetts (pop. 33,000), is seeking to fill the position of Fire Chief. The Department consists of 78 fulltime uniformed civil service employees, with an operating budget of 7.9 million. Appointed by the Board of Selectmen and under the administrative oversight of the Town Administrator, the Fire Chief serves as a key member of the Town’s management team. A minimum of two years post high school education is required, with advanced degrees in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Homeland Security, Business or Public Administration, as well as, a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officers Program are preferred. In addition, candidates should be credentialed as a Massachusetts Fire Chief, or have the ability to become one upon appointment. Interested candidates must have a minimum of seven years experience in fire suppression, as well as a minimum of five years supervisory experience.
Candidates must have demonstrated experience and skill within the following critical areas:
budgeting; collaborative interagency relationships; labor management relations in a unionized environment; fire; EMS; and emergency management.
