Job Description

Performs emergency response work involving firefighting, fire suppression, emergency medical care, emergency rescue, specialized rescue, hazardous material response, hazardous material containment or cleanup work in response to alarms; operates associated equipment and apparatus; trains in the methods and techniques of emergency response and use of equipment/apparatus; inspects and maintains equipment; performs fire inspections; performs various maintenance and custodial duties at the assigned fire station. Employee is subject to the normal hazards of emergency rescue and firefighting work. Reports to the assigned station Lieutenant/Captain. This position is essential. Personnel occupying this position may be scheduled to work regardless of weather conditions and/or when general County offices are closed. Person(s) in this position will encounter sensitive information in the performance of their duties and is expected to maintain that information confidentially.

Job Requirements

Additional Requirement :
HS/GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training in fire fighting and Emergency Medical Technician programs, one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving fire fighting and basic emergency medical care; or any equivalent combination of education/experience. Required to possess and maintain a valid Firefighter I & Firefighter II, EMT-B, CPR, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Operations certifications and a valid driver’s license or recognized equivalent(s) with appropriate endorsement(s). Within 24 months of employment, ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Pump Operator certificate. Additionally, ability to successfully obtain and maintain an Emergency Vehicle Operation Course (EVOC) and Vehicle Rescue certifications provided through the County’s Fire, Rescue & Emergency Management Recruit School. The County subscribes to the National Protection Association’s (NFPA) medical guidelines and applies these current guidelines. Employment requires compliance with the County’s current Special Conditions of Employment for Public Safety Employees agreements.
