CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office says a 6-year-old girl is dead and her 10-year-old sister is missing in a house fire in Cumberland.

The agency says the blaze was reported shortly after 6 a.m. today in a row house on Harrison Street.

Spokesman Bruce Bouch says the girls' mother and the woman's 7-month-old baby escaped without injury.

Bouch says the missing girl was believed to have been in the house when the fire started. He says she isn't known to have left the building. He says a Cumberland city firefighter was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

Bouch says five housing units were affected by the blaze. He says the American Red Cross is helping the families involved.
