Heat from blaze causes gun to fire, injures Okla. firefighter

The Tulsa World

MUSKOGEE, Okla. — A firefighter was wounded Friday night when the heat from a bedroom blaze caused a gun inside to fire.

The Muskogee Fire Department responded to a house fire at 11:19 p.m. While firefighters worked to contain a fire in a bedroom, one firefighter was shot in the thigh.

The heat from the fire caused a gun in the room to discharge, said Muskogee Fire Chief Derek Tatum.

The fire department hasn't released the firefighter's name, but officials said he has been with the department for six years.

The firefighter was taken St. Francis Hospital, where he was treated and released early Saturday morning.
