Roof collapses at Utah firehouse

It was initially believed that one firefighter was trapped, but he was later found outside the building

SANTA CLARA, Utah — The roof over the Santa Clara Fire Department caved in Thursday, prompting an investigation into what caused the collapse.

The call came in to dispatchers at 4:05 p.m. after a contractor working across the street from the fire station, 2365 N. Rachel Drive, saw the roof collapse over the garage that houses the fire trucks, dispatcher Tyler Johnson said.

He said it was initially believed that one firefighter was trapped, but he was later found outside the building.

Santa Clara city manager Wally Ritchie said no one was injured in the incident and there were no explosions.

He said they have secured the building and have opened an investigation into what caused the collapse. Investigators were unsure of the extent of the damage.
