ESTES, Colo. — A brand-new fire truck for the Estes Park Volunteer Fire Department passed its final inspection in Nebraska, was delivered last week from Denver and will be hot-footing it to local emergencies and events soon, Fire Chief Scott Dorman told the public safety committee recently.
The truck was delivered five weeks early. It arrived in town (as a tourist) last week, when it underwent fleet maintenance. The engine's pumps were tested last Friday at Lake Estes.
"We're ordering equipment for it now," Dorman told committee members. "Extra things, you have to purchase. We're hoping to have it in service by the second or third week in July."
All the truck operators in the fire department will receive training on the new truck. Four or five members of the department will be trained by the factory representatives and they will, in turn, train the other firefighters.
A traditional "wet-down" party is planned and Dorman said more information on that will be forthcoming.
The Estes Park Volunteer Fire Department conducted a three-hour pump test on their new truck at Lake Estes on Friday.
