SALEM, Va. — For Monday's training exercise, all the hazmat firemen knew is they're looking for some type of white powder in a locker at Andrew Lewis Middle School. The three day training session was set up so the team could practice with their newest tool; a 60 foot behemoth hazmat truck. It's almost twice as big as Roanoke City's truck. The old truck was the size of an ambulance and could only carry some of their gear.
Deputy Chief John Prillaman showed us the cargo room. "You can put very large equipment all the way through," said Prillaman.
Move over Groupon, because this bad boy was the deal of the century. They bought it used from a fire station in Indiana for only $28,000. A new truck would've cost at least $400,000.
