New Fire Truck Arrives for Newton-Ransom

Ransom Twp. - The Newton-Ransom Volunteer Fire Company's new rescue truck finally arrived. Wayne Ayers, of the volunteer fire company gave a brief presentation of the truck's attributes at Monday night's Ransom Township meeting.

"The new truck is impressive," said Ayers, "It's a real nice piece of machinery."

According to Ayers, the truck is preowned, originally from Colorado. Built to tackle mountainous inclines and rugged winters, the truck is well suited to Ransom Township.

"This truck gets up hills quickly. It eats hills right up." Mr. Ayers said.

The new truck is full sized, equipped with 4-wheel drive, a lot of horsepower, a water tank, a pump, foam system and 1500-watt generator.

Fire Chief John Stemphoski said the new truck is a "rescue/pumper." designed for rescue operations in automobile accidents, it also carries water for putting out fires and has a foam system for flammable liquid spills. The truck has a small Jaws of Life, but Stemphoski said they'd like to get a larger set in the future, "Adding on individual goodies can cost $25,000.00."

Ayers said, the Fire Company hopes to upgrade the truck - gradually. Stemphoski said the fire company obtained the truck three weeks ago from Fire Trucks Plus, and recently put it in service a week ago Monday. Within a week of its purchase, the truck was in action, assisting in the rescue of a motorist who'd had an accident on Newton Ransom Blvd. The public can view the new truck, which will be at the Ransom Township building during the annual spring cleanup. May 14-15.
