Storm King Mountain Announces Fire Wrap Lagging, an Advanced Burnover Protection Product for Fire Vehicles

This fire wrap lagging material protects electrical cables, fuel and air lines from burnovers.

CAMARILLO, CA - Storm King Mountain™ has developed a fire wrap for lines and hoses that allows installation without having to remove the original line. Robust thermal insulating performance allows even plastic air lines to be protected from heat and direct flames in wildfires.

On commercial vehicles there are more plastic and rubber lines and hoses that ever before. Most cannot handle temperatures over 82°C (180°F) without leaking. Our fire wrap lagging is designed to protect fuel and hydraulic hoses, brake lines and electrical cables from heat and flames while the vehicle is operating around wild fires or hot spots. It has been tested and approved for both radiant and convective heat environments. The fire wrap lagging comes in a 7.6 M (25 ft.) long roll of flat insulating material for a specific diameter with an overlapping seam. Various sized fire wrap lagging is available to wrap diameters of:
• 14 mm (0.5 in.)
• 25 mm (1.0 in.)
• 50 mm (2.0 in.)
• 100 mm (4.0 in.)

To install, cut the fire wrap lagging to the length of the line you’re protecting. Wrap it around the line and secure with stainless steel tie wraps or hose clamps.

Independent Laboratory Testing:
Our product has been tested and approved for both radiant and convective heat environments in wild fires. In standardized fire tests run by a third party laboratory our fire wrap lagging passed with at least a 100% safety factor, double the test requirements.

The test requires that a protected line should maintain an internal pressure of 700 kPa (110 psi) for at least 60 seconds after which a fire has attained a steady state of heat release greater than 800kW and a temperature of 900°C ( 1,650°F).
