Fire Corps has announced the release of a series of free educational webinars aimed at helping fire and EMS personnel start, implement, and expand a local Fire Corps program at their own departments. The webinars, produced in partnership with FireRescue1, provide an overview of the program and specific examples from other departments participating in the Fire Corps program.
Fire Corps enables community members to make a difference in their local fire and EMS department by assisting in non-emergency roles and increasing the department’s capacity to provide critical services. The program provides resources for departments to utilize citizen advocates in non-operational roles so they can develop, implement, and sustain programs and services that will help their department meet the needs of their community.
The series of webinars features five separate educational modules, each dedicated to providing information about a component of the Fire Corps program. They are narrated by Dr. William Jenaway, Fire Chief Magazine’s 2001 "Volunteer Fire Chief of the Year" and an expert in fire, emergency medical and loss prevention services.
• Module 1: Introduction to Fire Corps explains the basics of Fire Corps and will prepare departments to start building a local program.
• Module 2: Implementing and Sustaining a Fire Corps Program is designed to help departments establish and maintain a Fire Corps program.
• Module 3: Department Resources provides detailed information, documents, and resources to start, maintain, and grow a Fire Corps program.
• Module 4: Recruiting and Retaining Fire Corps Volunteers will help departments establish a pool of community members to assist with the department’s non-emergency tasks and also identify a variety of ways to keep them actively involved.
• Module 5: Innovative Practices offers examples of innovative practices from local Fire Corps programs across the nation.
The five webinars feature valuable information about how departments can expand the services they offer, gain insight for managing volunteers, network with existing programs to expand activities, and discover how community members and departments nationwide are benefiting from Fire Corps.
