Fire crews used a ladder truck and chain saws to cut branches around the animal

By FireRescue1 Staff

OXNARD, Calif. — Firefighters removed a bear from a cemetery tree from a densely populated neighborhood in Oxnard on Tuesday.

After securing the tranquilized animal with ropes, fire crews used a ladder truck and chain saws to cut branches around the 200-pound California black bear before lowering it, according to the Ventura County Star.

Wardens had first shot the bear with tranquilizer darts, causing it to fall asleep on a branch.

The bear was reportedly first seen in the parking lot of a fire station and later up a tree in a condominium complex.

A crowd of onlookers gathered to watch as the rescue took several hours, with authorities working carefully to avoid a fall that could potentially injure the bear.
